27. A.C Mains Detector

This project may come off as simple, but it can be important as this device can detect active power lines. In other words, if you suspect that this unit is active, and you can't see whether or not it's plugged in, this device can detect the presence of the A/C currents, through a red LED light as a source of indication. It's powered through a 6-volt battery pack, making this unit good for portable use in detecting energized objects.

This is not limited to just AC currents, It can detect static electricity, which is everywhere, and some claimed that it can detect ghosts. Remember, there is some form of energy around us since energy has to be transferred somewhere, from light energy, heat energy, and many more. You can also increase the antenna length of the detector to detect a higher level of energy.
Always be careful about which parts you are going to test, since energized sources, such as the 120-volt AC power line, may pose risks, such as an electrocution hazard.

The device works through the Darlington transistor configuration, so that the gain is increased, and thus, making the device more sensitive. Having 2 transistors alone makes it sensitive enough, but since 3 transistors were used, the gain is up to 2 million!
